P.Ri.S.Ma MED2

Objective

The project P.Ri.S.Ma. MED2 – Waste and By-products Management Plan in Fisheries, Aquaculture and Recreational Boating in the Mediterranean – Phase 2 aims to support the transition from a linear model to a circular economy model in the fisheries sector. It focuses on the regulatory classification of waste and by-products from fisheries and aquaculture, with the goal of creating new value chains for their reuse.

Currently, these materials are often considered waste and excluded from production cycles. The project seeks to analyze and propose legislative and operational solutions to enable their valorization as resources.

Project Description

The project involves Italian and French partners within the Italy–France Maritime Territorial Cooperation Programme, aiming to develop new value chains oriented toward sustainability and innovation through the reuse of by-products from fisheries, aquaculture, and recreational boating.

Planned activities include monitoring the quantity and characteristics of waste, evaluating reuse scenarios across different application sectors, and defining replicable operational models to support circular processes.

Role of MICAMO LAB

MICAMO LAB contributes to the project through specialized technical and regulatory consulting, carrying out an in-depth analysis of the regulatory framework governing the management and classification of animal by-products from the fisheries sector.

The objective is to support the definition of interpretative criteria that allow these materials to be considered not as non-reusable waste, but as potentially valuable resources, in compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

MICAMO LAB’s contribution includes the analysis of regulatory and technical-scientific implications related to potential reuse, providing key elements for the development of guidelines and operational tools supporting a circular economy model in the fisheries sector.
