Training Objective
Creation of a regional cluster involving Liguria, Piedmont, and Lombardy, aimed at developing innovative value chains in the fisheries sector based on circular economy principles and the valorization of industrial by-products.
Purpose
The collaboration between internationally recognized research centers aims to develop innovative technologies and processes for the production of sustainable products in the cosmetics, nutraceutical, and packaging sectors.
The project involves the creation of a demonstrable and replicable cluster capable of implementing systemic solutions based on multi-level circular value chains, with the goal of eco-efficiently valorizing by-products and side-streams from fisheries and fish industries.
Role of MICAMO LAB
MICAMO LAB coordinates Work Package 2, contributing to the technical and scientific management of the activities. The company is responsible for microbiological analyses and the characterization of intermediate and final outputs, as well as for risk assessment related to the developed extracts, supporting their integration into the respective production chains in compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

The consortium includes 34 companies and research organizations from 7 countries (Italy, Spain, Israel, Norway, France, Bulgaria, and Kenya), covering a wide range of thematic and industrial sectors.
In addition to the Liguria Region—represented by ARPAL and FILSE—the partnership includes the University of Genoa, AMIU, companies such as MICAMO and Project HUB 360, TICASS, and numerous other public and private stakeholders.
MARINE ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION
The project also addresses environmental aspects related to the protection of the marine ecosystem: abandoned fishing nets will be collected, recovered, and recycled for use in the automotive sector and in cosmetic packaging.
